Each week, songs are played connected to members of 'The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame'. To mark the induction of concert promoter Bill Graham, we hear one of the acts who appeared at his Fillmore West venue in San Frnacisco, Jefferson Airplane. We also feature 'The Message' by inductees Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five. In 'A Matter Of Life And Death', we celebrate the birthday on this date in 1941 of Chubby Checker with his hit 'Let's Twist Again'. Paul pays tribute to pedal steel guitarist Buddy Emmons, who has recently died, by playing one of the hundreds of recordings he played on -'Someday Soon' by Judy Collins. 'It's Not The Same Old Song' highlights 'Photograph' by Def Leppard and a different song with the same title by Ed Sheeran.
In the feature called 'Beyond The Sea', Paul plays an item from a UK artist's biggest selling album in America. Tonight, we hear tracks from LPs by Graham Nash and Depeche Mode. 'The Other Number Ones' are records that reached the top of the American chart in 'Cash Box' magazine, but not in the Hot 100 of the other US chart publication 'Billboard'. This week's examples are by The Association and The Three Degrees.
Our R&B number ones are from 1987 and now by Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam and Janet Jackson featuring J. Cole. We hear Country number ones from 1961 and this week by Leroy Van Dyke and Luke Bryan. Our featured past and present Rock number ones are by the Foo Fighters and Elle King. The number one album is 'That's The Spirit' by Bring Me The Horizon and the best-selling digital song for a third week is 'What Do You Mean?' by Justin Bieber.
