Shaun's Christmas Song: The Release

Shaun releases his Christmas song, Please Don't Get Me Anything for Christmas, featuring Rod Stewart, Mark King and Bernard Butler.

Today is the day - Shaun releases his infamous Christmas Song 'Please Don't Get Me Anything for Christmas'.

Shaun had been talking about writing a Christmas song for a few years, but it was only during an interview with Rod Stewart in November that the plan to record the Chritsmas song stuck. Rod, on hearing Shaun wanted to write something with a 'Rod inflected vocal' told Shaun to write it and send it to him. This got the ball rolling as Shaun then announced on air that he was going to write and record his 'Christmas Masterpiece'.

The call went out to 6 Music listeners to help out and those that offered their time and expertise included super producer Steve Levine (who has worked with Culture Club and The Beach Boys) and friend of the show and Level 42 bass player Mark King. Recorded at Levine's Liverpool studios, the track is of course covered in sleigh bells and Keaveny's own unique Christmas cheer along with a very special vocal recorded in LA by Rod Stewart and guitars by Bernard Butler.

Shaun premiers the track this morning before appearing on Steve Lamacq's 6Music show this afternoon for an indepth interview.
