Ricky Ross tells the story of Timex in Dundee, through the good times and the bad times.
Ricky Ross tells the story of Timex in Dundee, through the good times and the bad times. Timex came to Dundee in November 1946 attracted by the manual dexterity of female workforce, from the Jute Mills. At its peak, the watch manufacturer employed more than 5000 women and men, and every second watch sold in the USA was a Timex. In the flagship purpose built factory at Camperdown, women did most of the work and for those who worked there, it was more than a job - it was a community. By 1993, it was all over and Timex left Dundee after a long and bitter dispute between the workers and management. For many years, the dispute tarnished the memories of the Timex, but now a group of former workers have been researching the complete history of Timex's Dundee years and remembering when Timex was good for Dundee and Dundee was good for Timex.
