Fairport at 50

Celebrating the history and legacy of Fairport Convention. Formed in 1967 in the midst of London's vibrant counter-culture, they invented a whole new genre of music - folk rock.

'Fairport At 50' celebrates the 50th anniversary of Fairport Convention, the ground-breaking band that invented English Folk Rock, creating the masterful 'Liege and Lief' album, acknowledged by Radio 2 listeners as the greatest folk recording of all time.

Narrated by Bob Harris, 'Fairport At 50' is the story of one of the UK's best loved and most influential bands, tracing their history from tragedy to triumph.

The programme features music from throughout the Fairport Convention career, interviews with band members past and present and insights from devoted fans including Harry Shearer and Robert Plant.
