Ceum Air Cheum/First Steps

A' r猫iteachadh beatha as d猫idh cas a chall agus feum air comas coiseachd ionnsachadh as 霉r? Documentary exploring the process of adjusting to life after a leg amputation.

'S e coiseachd aon de na ciad rudan a dh'ionnsaicheas sinn mar naoidhean. Ach feumaidh cuid na sgilean sin ionnsachadh airson an d脿rna turas. Airson a' mh貌rchuid tha obair-lannsa ball-bodhaig mar seo ga dh猫anamh air sg脿th tinneas an t-si霉cair neo droch chuairteachadh-fala am measg seann daoine. Tha d矛reach cola-deug bho chaidh p矛os den chois chl矛 aige a thoirt far John Murphy (60), meacanaig bhusaichean 脿 Glaschu. Bidh sinne ga leantainn air an t-slighe gus cas 霉r fhaighinn agus e an d貌chas coiseachd ionnsachadh as 霉r air sg脿th 's gu bheil a bhe貌-shl脿int a' crochadh air, "am bidh iad de貌nach obrachadh c貌mhla rium 's gun agam ach aon chas, tha e an urra riutha-san." Le bhith a' faighinn cas 霉r aig aois 78, tha beatha Mhurchaidh Mhoireasdan air spionnadh 脿s 霉r fhaighinn, "sia m矛osan air ais, bha d霉il agam nach coisichinn gu br脿th tuilleadh ach tha mi air mo bheatha fhaighinn air ais." Chaill Iona Hay (13) a cas nuair a chaidh mothachadh gun robh aillse oirre 's gun I ach c貌ig bliadhna a dh'aois. Bliadhna mus chaill I a cas, chaochail a m脿thair le aillse. Leis gu bheil I fhathast a f脿s, feumaidh Iona cas 霉r fhaighinn a h-uile sia m矛osan, "mun 脿m a bhios mi fichead 's d貌cha gum bidh 100 cas air a bhith agam." Chaill Andy MacLe貌id a chas an d猫idh dh脿 bhith air a' leagail far a bhaidhsagal le car anns a' Ghearastan. Tha esan an d貌chas gun toir cas 霉r bionaic atharrachadh s貌nraichte air a bheatha, tillidh mo bhodhaig air ais d矛reach mar a bha I nuair a bha mo dh脿 chois fh矛n agam." Le adhartas ann a teicne貌las, c貌 ris a tha e coltach dhaibhsan a dh'fheumas am beatha a r猫iteach 脿s 霉r as d猫idh cas a chall agus coiseachd ionnsachadh a-rithist?

Learning to walk is one of the first things we do as infants. But for some people this is something they have to go through a second time.

This documentary looks at what it's like adjusting to life with a prosthetic leg. For the majority of cases leg amputations are as a result of diabetes and poor circulation among older people. 60-year-old bus mechanic John Murphy, from Glasgow, has had his lower left leg removed just two weeks ago. We follow him as he is fitted for a new leg and hopes to be able to walk again, something his livelihood depends on.

For Murdo Morrison, getting a prosthetic leg at 78 has given him a new lease of life, but for 13-year-old Iona Hay losing her leg was a result of being diagnosed with cancer at the age of just five, a year after losing her mother to the same illness. As she's still growing, she gets a new leg every six months.

For 25-year-old Andy Macleod, leg amputation was the result of being knocked off his bike by a car in Fort William. He hopes that a new state-of-the-art bionic leg will have a dramatic impact on his life. With advances in technology, what is it like nowadays for those adjusting to life after a leg amputation and learning to walk again?
