Springwatch Episode 9

Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan report live from the National Trust's Sherborne Park Estate. They introduce the first in a series of four films about Somerset's egret colonies.

It is the start of the final week of Springwatch, and Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan report live from the National Trust's Sherborne Park Estate in the Cotswolds.

It's been an action-packed weekend - the bullfinches fledged to begin with, then to the surprise of everyone on site, the blackcaps rallied and also left their nest.

With those two gone the team also introduce us to two brand new nests, a blackbird and a chaffinch, situated in the same hawthorn bush.

Further afield, the two peregrine chicks continue to grow and develop in Salisbury, and we meet a colony of beautiful white little egrets nesting high up in a tree in Somerset.

Martin Hughes-Games has donned his climbing gear to meet some adventure junkies who are also helping the conservation of a rare mountain blackbird, and we also get a privileged peak into the life story of the orange tip butterfly, a species that is bucking a worrying trend for butterflies up and down the country.
