Script

Good morning, Reading over ones old school reports, can be both painful and funny! Mine often said ‘Sarah would do much better if she talked less to her friends and listened more to the teacher.’ That’s one thing that has never changed. But sometimes people far exceed what their school reports predicted. Charlotte Bronte’s school report read’ She writes indifferently and knows nothing of grammar’ (…would you believe it?!); John Lennon’s  included ‘Certainly on the road to failure… hopeless, rather a clown in class.’ And Albert Einstein’s declared, ‘He will never amount to anything.’ I think we can safely say that they all turned out rather differently!
People do change; as we get older, with differing circumstances and sometimes even from day to day. One day we might say we’re patient, but the next impatient with everyone we meet. While I’m on holiday I might be happy and relaxed, but the first day back at work reveals a different story.
In one of my mid-week youth groups we spent a few weeks looking at the character of God. We looked at biblical stories that show us that he is eternal, the creator, glorious, almighty and sovereign. We’ve been reminded that he is always those things, all through history, and at any time of the day and night. Whereas we change, grow and develop throughout our lives, God isn’t like that - he is consistent. A number of times in the bible we read, ‘The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.’ These words come from the lips of Moses, Nehemiah, the Psalmists, Joel and Jonah. And that’s only giving us a small snapshot of what he’s like. It’s encouraging to be sure of who someone is, and how they will act.
Heavenly Father, thank you that you are the same yesterday, today and forever. Amen.
