Moon gate garden

The beautiful garden Adam Frost went to see belongs to Derek and Helen Harnden. It is only in its second year, but already looks stunning. If you would like to see for yourself, it will be open for the National Garden Scheme over the weekend of 16 & 17 September. Groups of 10 or more are also welcome by appointment over the summer.

Jimi Blake

Jimi Blake

After training at the National Botanic Gardens in Dublin, Jimi Blake was appointed Head Gardener at Airfield in Dundrum. Twelve years later, he acquired 20 acres of his own land which he is slowly turning into a plantsman’s paradise. As Monty discovered, Jimi is a man that is always challenging convention, experimenting with plants in a way that no other person would dare! If you ever find yourself in this part of the world, be sure to visit.

Night-scented plants

Night-scented plants

After a hard day at work on a hot summer's day, there’s nothing like sitting out in the evening with a cold beer or glass of wine. And to enhance the experience, we'd recommend adding a few night-scented plants. White flowers are particularly useful as they really stand out as the light begins to fade. Here are some plants you might like to try, some of which were used in Nick Bailey’s twilight patio makeover.

Brugmansia suaveolens (Angel's trumpet)
Hesperis matronalis (Sweet rocket)
Jasminum officinale (Summer jasmine)
Lilium regale (Regal lily)
Lonicera periclymenum (Honeysuckle)
Matthiola longipetala (Night-scented stock)
Mirabilis jalapa (Marvel of Peru)
Nicotiana sylvestris (Tobacco plant)
Oenothera biennis (Evening primrose)
Phlox paniculata ‘Eventide’ (Border phlox)
Trachelospermum jasminoides (Star jasmine)
Zaluzianskya ovata (Night phlox)
