Penny Gore presents a concert given by the 大象传媒 Scottish Symphony Orchestra under conductor Martyn Brabbins, including Tchaikovsky's The Tempest and his Symphony No. 6; in between them, we hear Elgar's Sea Pictures with the mezzo-soprano Karen Cargill as soloist. This concert is followed by Shostakovich's Symphony No. 7, the 'Leningrad', performed by the 大象传媒 Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Semyon Bychkov, all part of Afternoon Concert's participation in Radio 3's season Breaking Free: A Century of Russian Culture, which continues next week.
