TB Alert works to tackle TB both in the UK and overseas. In Africa and India, the charity focuses on reaching the millions of people who lack the knowledge or resources to access appropriate care for their symptoms. In the last year, TB Alert reached over a million people with information about TB, and helped over 200,000 people get screened for TB or HIV.

In rural Zimbabwe, Rebecca watched helplessly as her five sisters fell ill and died without ever knowing the cause of their symptoms or where to get help. When Rebecca too fell ill, she feared for her future and her unborn child. Fortunately, Cecelia, a trained TB Alert outreach worker was close by.

TB Alert trains outreach workers, like Cecelia, to work in some of the most remote and disadvantaged communities in India and Africa, to raise awareness of TB and go door-to-door to ensure anyone with TB symptoms is linked to specialist services.聽

Many patients stop taking their medication because of the distressing side effects, thereby risking drug-resistance, death and the health of their loved ones. This is why TB Alert鈥檚 outreach workers continue to provide practical and emotional support to patients throughout their treatment.
