Brahms and Brazil
Brazilian cellist Antonio Meneses joins pianist Cristian Budu to perform music by Brahms, JS Bach and Jose Guerra Vicente.
Brazilian cellist Antonio Meneses is joined by pianist Cristian Budu in the second of four lunchtime recitals from Radio 3鈥檚 Cello Festival in partnership with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Today鈥檚 concert opens with an arrangement of JS Bach鈥檚 virtuosic second sonata for viola de gamba and harpsichord, followed by Brazilian composer Jose Guerra Vicente鈥檚 colourful and passion-infused depictions of Rio de Janeiro. Brahms鈥� first sonata for cello and piano closes the recital, threaded throughout with quotations from Bach鈥檚 Art of Fugue.
