American trumpet great Randy Brecker shares tracks that have shaped him as a musician, and rising star Chilean saxophonist Melissa Aldana performs music from her latest album.
Randy Brecker is one of the most highly regarded trumpeters in jazz. In his 50-year career he鈥檚 worked everyone from Art Blakey to Jaco Pastorius, though he鈥檚 perhaps best known for his fusion project The Brecker Brothers, with his late brother Michael Brecker on tenor saxophone. In this exclusive interview he shares a collection of tracks that have shaped him as a musician, formative influences and inspirations that include music by Brazilian bossa nova pioneer Jo茫o Gilberto and altoist 鈥淐annonball鈥 Adderley.
Also in the programme, rising star Chilean saxophonist Melissa Aldana in session. In 2013 Aldana became the first female musician and the first South American to win the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition. She performs music from her latest album, Visions.
