Magical realist author Jan Carson mixes the strange and otherworldly with ordinary, everyday life. Hailing from rural County Antrim, Jan's accent is a blend of Northern Irish and Scottish tones and she says her writing comes from somewhere in between. But liminal spaces can be full of longing and the sea is changing from place to place. Are you here or there? Arriving or leaving? It can be hard to tell which side you're on.
As political tides continue to shift between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK, Jan brings us stories from the Irish Sea between Scotland and her Northern Irish home. But as ownership moves with the rumbling tide, Jan finds here becomes there, everything's murky and a dividing sea can be treacherous one.
