In this first class interview from the archive, recorded in 2002, Edi Stark talks to Dr Mo Mowlam at her home in East London, shortly after publication of Momentum, a memoir of her time in government, including her key role in the Good Friday Peace Agreement as Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. In this warm, revealing conversation she clears up rumours and exaggeration about her political and personal life, talks about the lasting effects of growing up with an alcoholic father and how she dealt with diagnosis and treatment for a brain tumour while still working in a dangerous, high level job. She also discusses her relationship with Gordon Brown and other Scots in the Labour party, declaring they weren’t each other’s ‘type’. This is a fascinating insight into a key time in British politics with one of the most popular and charismatic political leaders of the twentieth century.
