Michael McIntyre and Battle of Britain Day
Zoe Ball chats to comedian Michael McIntyre, talking about his latest comedy special for Netflix. And it's Battle of Britain Day, so Zoe talks to WAAF veteran Kath McLeod.
Wake up and embrace the day with Zoe Ball and her special guest, comedian Michael McIntyre, whose latest stand up comedy special 'Showman' has just been released on Netflix. The show was filmed at the London Palladium on the 5th and 6th of February with Michael fresh off his 鈥楤ig World Tour鈥 where he played to over 800,000 fans worldwide. After making his name on 鈥楲ive at The Apollo鈥 this kickstarted Michael鈥檚 own television programme 鈥楳ichael McIntyre鈥檚 Comedy Roadshow. He was also a judge on Britain's Got Talent in 2011. In 2010, Michael became the youngest ever host of the Royal Variety Performance - a show he has performed at three times.
It's Battle of Britain Day, and Zoe is chatting to veteran Kath McLeod, who served as a radar operative in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force. It's officially named because 80 years ago the RAF Fighter Command claimed a decisive victory over the German Luftwaffe during the Second World War.
Along with Tina Daheley on news, Richie Anderson on travel and Mike Williams on sport, she and the team have the best start to your morning. With headlines, tunes chosen by listeners and more music that you can shake a glitterball at!

Pause For Thought
Before lockdown it was rare that all 8 of us in my family would have a single meal all together in any given week. Work, school, activities, commuting and the social lives of teenagers meant that breakfast, lunch and dinner were usually done in shifts. If we happened to get together at the same time, there was a lot of news to catch up on: exciting places we鈥檇 been, interesting people we鈥檇 seen. Now I have the opposite problem. We get to eat all our meals together all the time 鈥 but we find we have often little more to discuss than who is going to put the bins out or how slow the internet is.聽
This week I even found myself trying to make mealtime conversation about how the window cleaner had just visited. I gave up and tucked into my salad and suddenly there was a mini explosion of taste in my mouth. My fourth child鈥檚 face lit up as she witnessed the full repertoire of my appreciative expressions. She then brought the conversation back to life explaining how back in March she had sliced up a supermarket tomato and buried it in compost and organic hoover dust, how she had carefully tended and nurtured it, protected it from sweltering sun and marauding creepy-crawlies. Finally her patience and dedication had been rewarded with 63 perfect little spheres of tomato-ey goodness and the promise of more to come. Each one of those 63 fruits of her labour tasted truly amazing. More importantly they represented something else that had been growing slowly, secretly, during lockdown inside my daughter. A new interest. A sense of purpose and achievement.聽
A plan to share her reward with others. A reason to celebrate. A simple, yet profound pleasure on the most monotonous of days. The Bible offers us a list of fruit that I believe any of us can cultivate with the help of time and the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. I reckon spending time nurturing any of these may be one of the most significant things we can do not only for ourselves but for those around us. Tonight we are celebrating the anniversary of the adoption of my green-fingered daughter 鈥 and what better way than with a ratatouille containing her home-grown and tomatoes?
