Ruth Jones and Rick Astley
Zoe chats to actor and writer Ruth Jones about her brand new novel, and Rick Astley is on the phone to tell us about an exciting new project.
Ruth Jones is on the show today talking about her brand new novel 'Us Three'. Ruth is best known for her outstanding and award-winning television writing - 大象传媒 One鈥檚 Gavin and Stacey, in which she played the hilarious Nessa, and Sky 1鈥檚 Stella, in which she played the title role. She has won acclaim for her performances in 大象传媒 dramas Tess of the D鈥橴rbervilles, Little Dorrit and Hattie, as well as comedies Little Britain, Saxondale and Nighty Night. Her debut novel Never Greener was a number one bestseller.
Rick Astley is chatting to Zoe on the phone about an exciting new project he's involved with. Rick is of course well known for his years with the iconic production trio Stock Aitken Waterman. His massive hit single 'Never Gonna Give You Up' went to number one in 25 countries. He retired in 1993 having sold 40 million records worldwide and then made a comeback in 2007 after 'rickrolling' took over the internet. In 2016 Rick returned with the number one album '50', which was named as he had celebrated his 50th birthday that year. He wrote, recorded and sung the record, and it marked a return to live performing and releasing new music.
Along with Tina Daheley on news, Richie Anderson on travel and Mike Williams on sport, she and the team have the best start to your morning. With tunes chosen by listeners, and more music that you can shake a glitterball at!
There's also a daily Pause For Thought and listeners on the line, as Zoe entertains the nation with fun for the family!

Pause For Thought
From Nick Baines, the Bishop of Leeds:
I think I need to watch more telly. When the Emmys were announced the other day I realised I had never heard of most of the programmes that won. The problem is, though, that I鈥檝e recently gone back to watching the whole box set of The West Wing and anything else seems to get in the way. I know what I like and I like what I know.
The West Wing - which first broadcast on this very day in 1999 - follows a fictional US presidency and is great for learning how the White House works - or doesn鈥檛. But, of the many great lines in it, my favourite is: 鈥淲hat鈥檚 next?鈥 President Bartlet, whatever crisis he has just had to deal with, comes out with the question all the time: 鈥淲hat鈥檚 next?鈥
Now, I know the feeling. And I admire the people who just move effortlessly on to the next thing on the agenda. But, I also think it isn鈥檛 that easy ... and maybe isn鈥檛 always wise.
Most of us will know what it鈥檚 like when life feels like being trapped on a hamster wheel - or a conveyor belt to nowhere. You want the world to stop - to give you a break. But, things keep happening, time rolls on, and you just get thrown around by it.
And that鈥檚 life in the real world. But, I also hear the whisper of Jesus telling his friends to live in the moment: 鈥淒on鈥檛 worry about tomorrow; ... today is enough to cope with.鈥 Well, for some people that鈥檚 fine. They are sufficiently comfortable to know where the next meal is coming from. Yet, there is a rising number of people for whom tomorrow is a threat - today brings enough of a challenge.
This uncertainty makes me confront my own fragility. I am not in control of the world ... or even my own life. So, when I see people for whom tomorrow brings only fear or failure, I might look for a way to make today better ... for them.
Maybe that鈥檚 the answer to my own 鈥淲hat鈥檚 next?鈥 question ... while I continue to be haunted by the relentless pace of the West Wing.
