Another chance to hear a concert which was first given by clarinettist Julian Bliss and pianist Tim Horton in November 2020 at St. David's Hall in Cardiff, as part of a week-long series of live recitals curated by Cheltenham Music Festival. Poulenc's brilliantly witty Clarinet Sonata leads to a showcase for the instrument, Debussy's Premiere rapsodie, a work that was designed to test the mettle of Paris Conservatoire students. Leonard Bernstein's clarinet sonata is followed by Lewis Wright's arrangement of a Gershwin standard, "Soon". The dance rhythms of Joseph Horowitz's lively three-movement Sonatina make an exhilarating finale.
