In an attempt to stay in contact despite not being able to see each other physically, my niece and I meet via video chat every few weeks for what we call music Mondays.聽聽We pick our favourite music releases and try to persuade the other to listen to them.

Though my niece is one of my favourite people, she knows absolutely nothing about music. the other day I asked her the name of the group Beyonce was in before she became a solo artist,聽聽and my niece did not have the foggiest. If you ask me Destiny Child was one of the greatest groups of all time, but not to my niece, she would disagree.

I grew up in the 80s and 90s, and while my friends were collecting lip balms and sweet valley high books I was collecting 12-inch records.聽聽My favourite thing was to go record shopping on the weekend, spend all my pocket money, come home,聽聽gather my goods together and read the liner notes on the back of my purchases.聽

I would sit for hours on end admiring the artwork and the many people it took to make just one song lasting under four minutes, and this was all before me actually playing the song on my awia stack system. I appreciated the gift of Music, and my niece, well she simply didn鈥檛.

In turn, my niece asked me what is the best way to buy music to ensure the artist makes the most revenue from the sell. The fact that I did not know was the proof she needed that she was the better music fan, and her generation was more conscious and intentional music lovers.

It came to the part聽聽where we聽聽had to reveal our favourite release for that week聽

we said at the same time. We were shocked by each other's responses, because we had spent the last 30 minutes arguing about who鈥檚 taste was better, and the best way to support music, but there we were with the same result.

This reminded me in life we all have different methods to get to the same goal.
