The Last of the Bracchis
Elena Cresci takes a fresh look at the wonderful tradition of the Italian cafes, or Bracchis, in Wales. In an age of cafe culture, why are they struggling to survive?
Most Welsh people have their own personal connection with the Italian cafes, or Bracchis. To journalist Elena Cresci it's a family affair - her grandfather ran a cafe in Ammanford. There used to be hundreds of Italian cafes in Wales but today only a handful of the originals remain. Why do they still hold such a warm place in Welsh hearts? And, in an age of cafe culture, why have the Bracchis struggled to survive?
In this programme, Elena takes a fresh look at the wonderful tradition of the Italian cafes in Wales. Behind the fa莽ade of the shop windows, there lie stories of tragedy, tension and, most of all, triumph.
'The Last of the Bracchis' is produced by Astud Media.
