Jamie Oliver and Charlie Brooks

Jamie Oliver chats to Zoe about his new cookbook, Together. Charlie Brooks has all the gossip on her return to EastEnders and Jay Flynn returns with his Virtual Quiz.

Jamie talks to Zoe about his new cookbook, Together: Memorable Meals Made Easy. Each chapter features a meal, from seasonal feasts to curry nights, with a simple, achievable menu that can be mostly prepped ahead. Jamie's aim - whether you're following the full meal or choosing just one of over 120 individual recipes - is to minimise your time in the kitchen so you can maximise the time you spend with your guests. Jamie Oliver is a global phenomenon in food and campaigning. During a 20-year television and publishing career he has inspired millions of people to enjoy cooking from scratch and eating fresh, delicious food. He has now published 23 bestselling cookery books, all with accompanying TV shows.

Charlie Brooks is storming back to Albert Square and reprising her role as the murderous villainess Janine Butcher for a huge new story line. Charlie has been involved in her fair share of drama during her time on the soap, since she first appeared in 1999. Most notably, her character Janine married Barry Evans 鈥 played by Shaun Williamson 鈥 for his money before pushing him off a cliff. She went on to marry a rich elderly businessman called David, who died of a heart attack at the ceremony, before tying the knot with Ryan Malloy, whom she also tried to kill!

Plus, Jay Flynn returns with another round of his Virtual Radio Quiz where he tests the team on their general knowledge to see who comes out on top.

Along with Clare Runacres on news, Richie Anderson on travel and Mike Williams on sport, Zoe and the team have the best start to your morning. With celeb guests, quizzes, headlines, tunes chosen by listeners and more music than you can shake a glitterball at!

There's also a Pause For Thought from Laura Marks and listeners on the line as Zoe entertains the nation with fun for the family!

Pause For Thought

Pause For Thought

Two words that never come out of my mouth together are fun and run. Last year I was struggling, striving and sweating towards 5k, a goal which was momentarily achieved but then abandoned, leaving me first elated, then embarrassed.

So I approached the first, London community inter-faith funrun last weekend with considerable trepidation.

Luckily, and miraculously, there was also a 5k walk alongside the ought-to-be-done run, so I was in business 鈥 a relatively manageable stroll in the park.

My lack of sporting expertise has been exposed and magnified this week watching the Paralympics.聽 Ali Jawad, the powerlifter, weighed down with Crohn鈥檚 disease and its medication, was gut wrenchingly grateful to have qualified for the team, having pushed himself to the limit. He said: 鈥業鈥檓 very proud to have made it here. I think I鈥檝e won a medal in life.鈥

Turning up at the fun-run stadium, snacks packed, my t shirt heavily branded not with a GB flag but with charity logos, I was greeted by my Muslim co-runner Anna and the Christian organiser, Jessica.聽 We were enthralled by drummers from Shumei, a spiritual organization originating in Japan, and a Kingsbury based Hindu pipe band dressed in traditional Scottish kilts.

As we plodded the course we chatted, laughed and plotted, sharing lockdown stories鈥 so excited to be together in the flesh and not on a screen.聽 The runners lapped us 鈥 more than once, the organisers handed us cups of water and the supporters, gamefully and generously cheered us on.聽聽

Like all the competitors at the fun run, or in my case, the non-competitive participants in the fun stroll, I was given a medal.聽 It wasn鈥檛 a 鈥榤edal in life鈥 but it was a recognition of the importance of being together and of celebrating each other and our difference.

As the late Rabbi Lord Sacks said, 鈥渨e are told, and must struggle to see, that the wholly other, he or she who is not in our image, is yet in God鈥檚 image.鈥

My day ended, inevitably with food.聽 A veggie pasta from the Neasden Temple stand, a Jewish bagel and a freshly made Lebanese falafel.聽 It wasn鈥檛 much of a run, but it had been loads of fun with the 鈥榟e or she who is not in my image鈥 but is on my journey.
