Tuesday - Scheherazade

Rimsky-Korsakov's symphonic suite based on One Thousand and One Nights, and concertos by Robert Schumann and Shostakovich.

Presented by Ian Skelly, with a selection of music for the afternoon from around Europe and from 大象传媒 ensembles, including the 大象传媒 Symphony Orchestra playing Ana Sokolovic's spectacular Ringelspiel for orchestra. Marin Alsop conducts Rimsky-Korsakov's symphonic suite Scheherazade at 3pm, and the music of Robert Schumann features twice - the cello concerto in St Petersburg and the Italian soloist Enrico Dindo, and chamber music with the cellist Manuel Fischer-Dieskau at Romania's George Enescu Festival. Plus Steven Osborne playing Shostakovich with the Ulster Orchestra.
