Wednesday - Pictures at an Exhibition

Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, orchestrated by Ravel with the Ulster Orchestra, plus music by Verdi and Stravinsky.

Ian Skelly introduces recordings of classical music from around Europe and from 大象传媒 ensembles. An overture from Fanny Mendelssohn begins the afternoon, played by the Ulster Orchestra who also feature in Ravel's orchestration of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, and music by Thomas Ades. Christopher Maltman is one of the soloists in arias by Verdi in Copenhagen, and members of the German Symphony Orchestra play Stravinsky's Octet for brass and woodwind.
