"Why are manhole covers round?"

Sean asks why it is that manhole covers are round.

"Why," Sean asks, "are manhole covers round?"

"It is," says Trevor, "So they cannot fall back into the hole!"

"No!" Sean says. "That is not the reason. According to QI."

The Kerryman in Antrim rings to say, "I'm sorry but your friends in QI have got it wrong about the round manholes. It's a fact that on a round manhole cover the outside edge is bigger than the inside of the hole. I've put hundreds of them in."

"I know you're right," Sean says. "I know that. But I've an hour to fill in this programme!"
