Niall O Gallagher is in Wales investigating the impact of climate change on the country.

Tha Niall O’ Gallagher anns a’ Chuimrigh a’ rannsachadh buaidh atharrachadh na gnàth-shìde air an dùthaich. Ann an ceann a tuath na dùthcha tha bailtean air a’ chost a’ strì an aghaidh ìrean mara ag èirigh. Mu dheas tha dùbhlain air thoiseach air gnìomhachasan troma leithid an stàilinn nas lugha de charboin a chruthachadh gus amasan carbon neodrachd riaghaltas na Cuimrigh a choileanadh. Niall O Gallagher is in Wales investigating the impact of climate change on the country. In the northwest of the country coastal towns are battling rising sea levels while, in the south, heavy industry faces the challenges of decarbonisation in an effort to meet the Welsh government’s environmental targets.

Atharrachadh na gnàth-shìde

Atharrachadh na gnàth-shìde
An-uiridh chuir Pàrlamaid na Cuimrigh taic ri amasan laghail cothromachd carboin a ruighinn ron bhliadhna 2050. Tha buaidh atharrachadh na gnàth-shìde ri faicinn mar-thà agus coimhearsnachdan air costa na Cuimrigh fo chunnart bho èirigh na mara. Ach tha iomadh cosnadh a’ crochadh air losgadh carboin agus gnìomhachas trom fhathast na bheò-shlàinte do mhìltean. Thèid Niall O'Gallagher bho Cheann a Tuath gu Ceann a Deas na Cuimrigh feuch ciamar a tha muinntir na dùthcha a' cur aghaidh ri atharrachadh na gnàth-shìde.

Bhruidhinn ·¡Ã²°ù±è²¹ ri daoine aig a bheil cuimhne air tuiltean Towyn ann an 1990 agus ri cuan-eòlaiche a mhìnicheas carson a dh'fhaodadh a leithid tachairt nas trice mar thoradh air atharrachadh na gnàth-shìde. Ann am Fairbourne, chualas fearg leis a' Chomhairle ionadail a thuirt nach deigheadh am baile a dhìon bhon uisge às dèidh 2054. Agus ann am Port Talbot, dachaigh do fhear de na muiltean-stàilinn as motha anns an Roinn ·¡Ã²°ù±è²¹, chualas miann an luchd-obrach gum bu toil leotha an àrainneachd, an obair agus am fèin-aithne a ghleidheadh. Mu dheireadh fhuair an sgioba an cothrom uchd riaghlaidh ann an Cardiff a cheasnachadh mu na h-amas gnàth-shìde aca agus mun bhuaidh a dh'fhaodadh iad toirt air coimhearsnachdan so-leònte air feadh na Cuimrigh.

Climate change

Climate change
Last year the Welsh Parliament backed legal targets to achieve carbon net zero by 2050. The effects of climate change are already visible and costal communities face increasing danger from rising sea levels. But many jobs still depend on burning carbon with still thousands still making a living from heavy industry. Niall O'Gallagher travelled from north to south to see how Wales is responding to the challenge of climate change.

·¡Ã²°ù±è²¹ spoke to witnesses who remember the Towyn floods in 1990 and to an oceanographer who explains why similar events could happen more frequently in the future. In Fairbourne, there was anger with the local council who said the village would no longer be defended from the after 2054. And in Port Talbot, home to one of the largest steel works in Europe, ·¡Ã²°ù±è²¹ heard the desire of workers to protect their environment, their livelihoods, and their identity. Finally the team got the chance to question decision makers in Cardiff about their climate ambitions and the impact they might have on vulnerable communities across Wales.
