Wendy Daunt takes a look at Rosie Cooper鈥檚 private member's bill that will declare BSL an official language, while Yvonne and Julian meet Nadeem Islam to learn more about his role in ITV鈥檚 The Bay.

Wendy Daunt takes a look at Rosie Cooper鈥檚 private member's bill that will declare BSL an official language. She investigates exactly what the bill is, the impact it would have on the deaf community and how Scotland has benefited from passing their own BSL (Scotland) Act. Back in the studio, Yvonne and Julian meet Jeff McWhinney to learn why some have concerns about the proposed bill and its robustness.

Yvonne and Julian also meet Nadeem Islam to learn more about his role in ITV鈥檚 The Bay, a contemporary police drama set in Morecambe. They find out about how Nadeem drew upon personal experience to play the role of Jamal, what it was like filming during Covid-19 restrictions, how he feels about the representation of deaf people on screen and what鈥檚 next for him.

To celebrate International Women鈥檚 Day on 8th March, Nadia Nadarajah pays homage to amazing deaf women such as Helen Keller, Omeima Mudawi-Rowlings and Ruth Montgomery, who have all been, and are, sources of inspiration and empowering role models.
