An Litir Bheag 893
Dh鈥檉h脿g sinn Iain agus am bodach, a bha ann an riochd eich, air taobh thall caolais bhon chaisteal phr脿ise. Fhuair Iain slat. 鈥楤uail an t-slat orm,鈥 thuirt am bodach, 鈥榓gus bidh mi nam long. Bheir mi don chaisteal thu. 脠ighidh a鈥 bhaintighearna, 鈥淐貌 脿s a th脿inig thu?鈥 Freagraidh thusa gun t脿inig thu 脿s na h-Innsean.鈥 Agus mh矛nich am bodach mar a bhiodh an c貌rr dhen ch貌mhradh.
始S ann mar sin a thachair e. Thuirt Iain gun t脿inig e 脿s na h-Innsean. 鈥楧猫 an luchd a tha agad air b貌rd?鈥 dh鈥檉haighnich a鈥 bhaintighearna.
鈥楾ha s矛oda,鈥 fhreagair Iain.
鈥楾hoir ultach dheth a-steach,鈥 ars ise.
鈥楴ach tig sibh a-mach don t-soitheach airson fhaicinn,鈥 thuirt Iain. Th脿inig a鈥 bhaintighearna a-mach.
Nuair a bha i air b貌rd, ghluais an soitheach gu socair. Bha a鈥 bhaintighearna a-nise p矛os air falbh bhon chaisteal. Bha i feargach. Thilg i iuchraichean a鈥 chaisteil dhan loch. 鈥楥ha t猫id duine eile a-steach,鈥 thuirt i.
Chaidh iad gu l霉chairt an R矛gh. Thuirt a鈥 bhaintighearna nach p貌sadh i an R矛gh gus am biodh an caisteal pr脿ise aig ceann na l霉chairt. Thuirt an R矛gh ri Iain gu feumadh esan sin a dh猫anamh. No bhiodh e air a chrochadh. Chaidh Iain agus am bodach gu uamh nam famhairean. Thog na famhairean an caisteal pr脿ise. Chuir iad aig ceann na l霉chairt e.
Ach cha robh a鈥 bhaintighearna riaraichte. 鈥楥ha ph貌s mi thu,鈥 thuirt i ris an R矛gh, 鈥榞us am faigh mi na h-iuchraichean agam air ais.鈥 Chaidh Iain don tr脿igh far an robh an t-iasg. Lorg an t-iasg na h-iuchraichean.聽
Cha robh a鈥 bhaintighearna s脿saichte, ge-t脿. 鈥楥ha ph貌s mi thu,鈥 thuirt i ris an R矛gh, 鈥榞us am faigh mi tr矛 botail de dh鈥檜isge 脿 Tobar nam Buadh.鈥櫬
Dh鈥檉halbh Iain agus am bodach. 鈥楩aigh clach,鈥 thuirt am bodach ris, 鈥榓gus buail mi am bun na cluaise. Bidh mi marbh. Sgolt mo bhr霉. Thig c貌ig fithich. Beir air dithis dhiubh. Can ris na tr矛 eile nach leig thu am br脿ithrean mu sgaoil gus an toir iad dhut c貌ig botail de dh鈥檜isge 脿 Tobar nam Buadh.鈥 Thachair e d矛reach mar a mh矛nich am bodach. Agus bheir mi an sgeul gu cr矛ch anns an ath Litir.

The Little Letter 893
We left Iain and the old man, who was in the form of a horse, on the far side of a strait from a brazen castle. Iain got a rod. 鈥楬it me with a rod,鈥 said the old man, 鈥榓nd I鈥檒l become a ship. I鈥檒l take you to the castle. The lady will shout, 鈥淲here did you come from?鈥 You鈥檒l reply that you came from the Indies.鈥 And the old man explained how the rest of the conversation would go.
That鈥檚 how it happened. Iain said that he came from the Indies. 鈥榃hat load do you have on board?鈥 asked the lady.
鈥楽ilk,鈥 replied Iain.
鈥楤ring a large armful of it in [to me],鈥 said she.
鈥榃on鈥檛 you come to the ship to see it,鈥 said Iain. The lady came out.
When she was aboard, the vessel moved gently. The lady was now a distance away from the castle. She was angry. She threw the keys of the castle into the loch. 鈥楴obody else will get entry,鈥 she said.
They went to the King鈥檚 palace. The lady said she would not marry the King until the brazen castle was at the end of the palace. The King said to Iain that he would have to do that. Or he would be hanged. Iain and the old man went to the giants鈥 cave. The giants lifted the brazen castle. They put it at the end of the palace.
But the lady was not satisfied. 鈥業 won鈥檛 marry you,鈥 she said to the King, 鈥榰ntil I get my keys back.鈥 Iain went to the beach where the fish was. The fish found the keys.
The lady was not satisfied, however. 鈥業 won鈥檛 marry you,鈥 she said to the King, 鈥榰ntil I get three bottles of water from the well of the virtues.鈥
Iain and the old man left. 鈥楪et a stone,鈥 said the old man to him, 鈥榓nd hit me at the base of the ear. I鈥檒l be dead. Slit my belly. Five ravens will come. Catch two of them. Tell the three others that you won鈥檛 release their brothers until they give you five bottles of water from 鈥渢he well of the virtues鈥.鈥 It happened just as the old man explained. And I鈥檒l conclude the story in the next Litir.
