Festival of Remembrance

Paddy O'Connell presents highlights from the Royal British Legion's Festival of Remembrance, which pays tribute to the armed forces and remembers all victims of war and conflict.

Paddy O'Connell presents highlights from the Royal British Legion's Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.

Military Bands take centre stage in the opulent surroundings of the Royal Albert Hall in this star-studded programme of music and reflection that honours those who have served in the Armed Forces, commemorating especially those who gave their lives.

The theme of this years Festival of Remembrance is 鈥淪ervice鈥 and at the heart is a tribute to HM Queen Elizabeth II who devoted her life to the service of the nation. Paddy speaks to Captain Amy Cooper who led Elizabeth II's funeral procession. She talks about the honour of serving the Queen and their shared love of horses.

There are star performances from Luke Evans, Hannah Waddingham, The Bocelli Family, Shona McGarty and Marisha Wallace. She speaks to Paddy about he love for the song "Wind Beneath my Wings" and her personal connection to the military.

Veterans and service men and women engaged in current military operations join with the audience to give thanks and pay tribute to all who risk their lives for their country.

Forty years on, the Falklands War is remembered and honour is also given to British Military Personnel working to train Ukrainian troops for frontline combat. Brigadier Justin Stenhouse plays a key role in the effort to train Ukrainian soldiers and he tells Paddy more about the works he's been doing.

The conclusion of the Festival features the service of Remembrance during which thousands of poppies are dropped from the roof of the hall, representing the lives lost in both World Wars, and subsequent conflicts.
