Nikolai Lugansky, Andrew Manze

Conductor Andrew Manze talks to Katie Derham from Liverpool, while in the studio Nikolai Lugansky performs some Rachmaninov live.

As their Principal Guest Conductor, Andrew Manze embarks with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra on musical journeys, accompanied by Mozart, Sibelius and Poulenc. He joins Katie Derham from Liverpool to talk about his work with the northern orchestra, as well as with its young siblings, the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and Choir, which he'll lead on Rachmaninov.

Rachmaninov, too, is at the heart of pianist Nikolai Lugansky's latest project. As 2023 marks the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth, Lugansky released a new album (on Harmonia Mundi), featuring the 1911 work '脡tudes-Tableaux' completed by '3 Pieces'. He talks to Katie Derham and performs some pieces live in the studio.
