The Day I Met the King

From Hollywood star Luke Evans to staff at Wrexham football club, people across Wales recall their meetings with King Charles III, (formerly the Prince of Wales) over the years.

A special programme in which people from across Wales recall their meetings with King Charles III over the years.

The monarch of the UK and 14 other Commonwealth realms around the world, Charles succeeded to the throne following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II - the UK's longest ever reigning monarch, in September 2022.

Prior to becoming King, Charles was the longest serving Prince of Wales in history. And here people from across Wales, some famous, some not so well known , remember their encounters.

The show includes a range of stories including funny and very warm meetings as well as unlikely connections between the King and the people.

Among those with stories to tell - Welsh actor and Hollywood star Luke Evans who has met the King several times through his work with The Prince's Trust, Aberfan disaster survivor Gaynor Madgwick who recalls the King's long standing support for the South Wales community, disability liaison officer at Wrexham football club Kerry Evans and Laura Parry and Liz Carnevale whose co-founding of a pioneering zero waste refill shop in Newport captured His Majesty's interest.

Multi-Gold medal winning Paralympian Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson talks about her encounters with the King along with Falklands' War veteran Simon Weston and self-described Welsh nationalist Geraint Evans who lived in the next room to the then Prince Charles in the halls of residence when he was learning Welsh at Aberystwyth University shortly before his investiture in 1969.

The programme also hears from Superted creator Mike Young about the King's involvement in an animated children's film which was sold around the world.

The Day I Met The King is produced by Ashley Byrne.

The programme is an MIM Production for 大象传媒 Radio Wales.
