Paddy O'Connell presents highlights from the Royal British Legion's Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.

Paddy O'Connell presents highlights from the Royal British Legion's Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.

Military Bands take centre stage in the opulent surroundings of the Royal Albert Hall in this star-studded programme of music and reflection that honours those who have served in the Armed Forces, commemorating especially those who gave their lives.

This year the Festival remembers the Battle of the Atlantic, the longest military campaign during World War Two, and Paddy hears from Merchant Navy veteran Ron Quested. The Festival also marks the 70th anniversary of the 鈥渇orgotten war鈥 - the Korean War. There are star performances from Katie Melua, Melakai Bayoh and Mica Paris 鈥 who will be honouring veterans from the Windrush generation.

Veterans and service men and women engaged in current military operations join with the audience to give thanks and pay tribute to all who risk their lives for their country. Paddy will hear about the power of rehabilitation from those taking part in the Invictus Games.

The conclusion of the Festival features the service of Remembrance during which thousands of poppies are dropped from the roof of the hall, representing the lives lost in both World Wars, and subsequent conflicts.
