Sirius: An Apocalyptic Order
Three tenacious journalists explore a secret 90s death cult and its charismatic leaders’ motives. Police and ex cult members’ testimonies converge: was it massacre or suicide?
How far would you go to escape the apocalypse? Sirius takes an in-depth look at the unbelievable story of The Order of the Solar Temple, a cult that made headlines in the 1990s.
Three journalists, Arnaud Bedat, Nicolas Bernard and Gilles Bouleau, team up to investigate seemingly unrelated fatal house fires in Canada and Switzerland. When macabre and distinctive patterns emerge, the journalists begin a quest to know more about secretive cult The Order of the Solar Temple. A worldwide investigation follows and thanks to chance encounters, forensic analysis and a growing archive of strange and disturbing evidence, they begin to shed light on the cult.
Testimony from former members confirms that followers believed the act of suicide would transport them to the star Sirius and a glorious afterlife. But how did the charismatic gurus convinced their wealthy and intelligent followers to believe these cult doctrines? The investigation also uncovers financial misconduct, disturbing deception and power struggles within the cult hierarchies. As more bodies are found in similar ritualistic settings over several years, the police and relatives of the dead start legal proceedings. The question remains: is it mass suicide, or a massacre?
