Luffy is traumatized by Ace鈥檚 death, and his mind collapses. Jinbe carries him away to the ship, and the Whitebeard Pirates vow to protect Ace鈥檚 little brother. An enraged Whitebeard fights Akainu, only to have his organs burned by the admiral鈥檚 Devil Fruit power. But he stands strong and splits the ground of the plaza between his sons and the Marines to allow them to escape as he takes on the enemy himself. He continues to wreak havoc on the island and buildings until Blackbeard and his new crew of Impel Down鈥檚 Level 6 inmates appear.
