Mother Carmel stops Jarl from killing Linlin and begs him to spare her life. Mother Carmel says she will leave Elbaph with Linlin, and Jarl reluctantly agrees. Mother Carmel ends up taking all the children of the Sheep鈥檚 House with her, and they start a new life on a different island. Then one day, Mother Carmel has a secret meeting with Cipher Pol agents. She is actually a child trafficker who has been selling orphans to the Marines for decades. She tells the agents that it is not easy putting on an act all the time and that this is her last business deal. On the day of Linlin鈥檚 sale to the Marines, Mother Carmel and the children have a birthday tea party for Linlin. Linlin is overjoyed by the festivity and starts devouring the croquembouche made with semla. When she is finished, she suddenly realizes that everybody, including Mother Carmel, is gone.
