Episode 4

Episode 4 of 30

Nigel Havers presides as five sellers aim to get the best price for their items, including model boats, Georgian peg dolls, a silver ink well, a street organ and a Chinese sideboard.

Nigel Havers welcomes five more sellers to the Bidding Room, where they try to sell items to professional dealers who are on the lookout for interesting pieces, with help from expert Simon Bower.

First through the doors is Winston, who’s travelled from the west country with a trio of model boats he bought from a local museum. The scratch-built collection sets sail with much interest from the dealers, but will Winston ride the wave of success, or find himself up the creek without a deal?

Next to arrive at Edinburgh HQ is Sandy, with a charming collection of Georgian Peg Dolls, inspired by the Old Woman in a Shoe nursery rhyme. Sandy was gifted the collection by her beloved godmother and would like to use the funds from the sale to pass on to her own goddaughter. With dealer Jo and new Edinburgh-based dealer Viki in the room, who both love folk needlework, could Sandy find herself in a profitable bidding battle?

Third to arrive is Elizabeth, with a silver salver and inkwell with a fascinating story that she can trace back over 150 years. Fresh-to-the-market pieces with intriguing histories always get the dealers purses twitching, but will Elizabeth find her palm crossed with silver in return for her precious piece.

Fourth in is Tyrone with a street organ traditionally used on promenades. He purchased the organ to entertain care home residents from a garden during lockdown, but will the dealers’ offers be music to Tyrone’s ears?

Last to arrive are Dorcas and her husband John, with a Chinese sideboard with an intriguing burn mark. Will the piece’s unique patination be the selling point to get the dealers bidding, or will it be a blemish on its sales record?

The dealers are Ian, Viki, Jacqui, Jo, and JB.
