Episode 3
Amanda and Alan brace themselves to tackle the heart of the B&B, the kitchen. Big plans are afoot with a Spanish-tiled extravaganza, but neither of them can agree on a colour scheme.
Amanda and Alan brace themselves to tackle the heart of the B&B, the kitchen. With a love for eating and entertaining, it’s crucial to the project that they get this social space perfect, and there are big plans afoot as they aim to push the boat out with a typical Spanish design. Amanda gets her own way on her favourite green colour scheme, and the duo go crazy with their love of pattern. With a statement island taking centre stage, they go all out and cover the whole room in a haven of tiles! But before their dreams can become a reality, the pair face the not so glamorous task of clearing out years’ worth of dust-covered clutter left by the previous owners.
Taking a deep dive into local cuisine, the best friends head to Seville for a tapas tour at the city’s gastronomic hub, Triana food market. Normally a lover of all types of dishes, Alan gets a shock when local restaurateur Victor serves up a side of snails and finally discovers a dish he’s not convinced by!
Back to the grind, Alan’s sloppy bricklaying skills are put to the test when Scott ropes him in to try and build a traditional cooker hood, but Amanda’s unimpressed with the finished result, secretly suggesting to Scott he might need to start the job over again! As Alan tries to perfect his bricklaying skills, Amanda decides to make some local friends and throws herself into Moclin’s women’s association. Her new Spanish buddies teach her to make the local doughnut delicacy, and Amanda soon gets more than she bargained for when she’s treated to the local ouzo!
Hoping to scope out neighbourhood activities for future B&B guests, Alan is excited when his favourite local mayor, Marco, invites him to try a rock-climbing course. Not a huge fan of heights, Alan nevertheless pretends to be brave and faces his fears, but as the wind whips up halfway along the cliff edge, Alan isn’t able to save face! While Alan’s left hanging on a tightrope, Amanda has an uphill climb of her own, trying to turn a dull, off-the-shelf, flat-pack cupboard into a bespoke five-star pantry.
Coming together to nail the pièce de résistance of their design, Amanda and Alan go tile-hunting on the outskirts of Vejer at friend Lee’s reclamation yard, but friction soon ensues when the pals can’t agree on a colour scheme.
