Episode 5
The best friends divide and conquer as Amanda transforms the second guest bedroom into a wallpapered spectacle while Alan goes tile-crazy with a hammam-inspired bathroom.
The best friends divide and conquer as Amanda revamps the second guest bedroom while Alan gets handed the short straw – the windowless bathroom. Kicking off the renovation, they bring out the big guns, demolishing an old dividing wall that cuts a window in half. After flexing their muscles, the duo are excited to discover their efforts are rewarded when loads of natural light floods in.
As Alan’s confined to a dark, windowless room for the bathroom, he ropes in Amanda for a trip to one of Granada’s famous hammam spas for some much-needed inspiration and R&R. However, the pair find it tough to stick to the hammam’s etiquette of silence, as they’re plunged into one of the cold pools and get more than they bargained for when they’re roped into a his-and-hers foam massage. Enlightened and ready to make the most of his bathroom, Alan plans to outshine Amanda, designing bespoke hammam-inspired tiles with friend Lee.
Not wanting to be outdone by Alan’s bathroom, Amanda’s keen to go mad in the guest bedroom, choosing a maximalist wallpaper pattern to cover the entire space. She then decides to push the boat out even more and whisks Alan off to Seville for a lesson in silk painting to create some statement bedside lampshades. But Amanda soon has concerns about Alan’s cack-handed ways with a paintbrush.
After a lot of DIY, the two best friends decide to hit the town in the bright lights of Malaga and head to one of the city’s top karaoke joints. After a stiff drink or two to give them such Dutch courage, it’s not long before they take centre stage and are belting out a unique duet of the own – Kylie fans beware!
