Mary Ann and Lucy on how humans interact with nature, visiting distillers who look to local botanicals to connect their spirits and the local environment. Fergus Stokes, Ardgour’s local microbrewer, shows Mary Ann his trials with a return to traditional Scottish heather ale production.
Mary Ann celebrates the rose and cherry - and how taste and aroma count as much as appearance in their petals and fruit. Lucy also finds a plant that has ‘leapt’ from a cultivated garden and happily grows wild, and finds the best way of using the intensely aromatic ‘ribena’ leaves of the flowering currant.
