Chapter 2: Summer

It鈥檚 summer in the mountains. While some honour traditions like Cairn Sunday and village sport in Donemana, others seek out the wilder places in search of nature鈥檚 mysteries.

It鈥檚 Cairn Sunday. On Mullaghcarn, walking guide Sean and his guide dog Bennie lead the annual hike to the peak, embracing nature and the tradition of carrying a stone up to the cairn. Down below, the bogs at An Creag谩n reveal some surprising wildlife. Ulster Wildlife peatland officers Rory and Bryan continue vital restoration works by creating dams.

In the foothills at Lissan House, volunteer Sharon is working to maintain the courtyard barns, while over the wall, the allotments are buzzing. Volunteer Madeline is delighted to share her precious garden space with summer creatures.

Over in Donemana, the Holm is the heartbeat of the cricket-mad village. For professional cricketer Rumesh from Sri Lanka, it鈥檚 the last match of the season, and he is hoping to help the Donemana team become the champions of the north west.
