Heart & Stone: The Folk

A journey through the changing landscape of folk music, meeting the voices reclaiming their place in British folk traditions.

In this episode of Heart and Stone, Meg Elliot delves into the evolving world of British folk music, asking who is remembered in folk histories and song - and who has been written out.

Beginning in the breath-taking joy of a ceilidh dance, Meg meets Sophie Crawford and George Samson of Queer Folk, who are unearthing new songs that document and celebrate the LGBTQ+ experience, and Angeline Morrison, who has created the first body of Black British folk song.

These musicians, and other community groups celebrating the diverse voices breathing new life into folk songs, are proving that the genre is a living one and redefining what it means when we talk about 鈥渢he folk鈥.
