The September 11th attacks in 2001 ushered in the best chance for peace in Afghanistan. A US-led invasion toppled the Taliban and raised Afghan hopes it would also end three punishing decades of war. Hamid Karzai, a young tribal leader from the Mujahideen, was chosen to lead his broken nation. Our Chief International Correspondent Lyse Doucet has reported on all the key events of the Karzai years and, in a joint Persian/Pashto/English 大象传媒 interview, speaks to the Afghan leader about his reflections and regrets.
