Myths of Britain
Alastair Sooke looks at how artists of all kinds have shaped the way the British think of themselves and the world sees Britain.
In Myths of Britain art critic Alastair Sooke looks at how artists of all kinds have shaped the way the British think of themselves and the world sees Britain. Poets, painters, novelists and film directors have all forged the way we think about Britain. The British Stiff Upper Lip, the great British landscape, grand country houses and even a fondness for rowdy public drinking - are all creative concoctions. Alastair travels from the Lake District to Edinburgh, and from North Yorkshire to Manchester to reveal the way big ideas about Britain have been created. Along the way he explores the work of JMW Turner, Evelyn Waugh, Walter Scott, David Lean, Noel Coward and William Hogarth.
