Paul maintains that he was "dropped into the area by a westerly wind" and decided to settle here having fallen in love with the place.
His journey involved an 8-hour stopover in the US which managed to grow into two and a half years.
He moved to Grenada, in the West Indies, at the age of 23 to get a feel for what the Caribbean was really like. While there he made a living by selling coconut oil to the tourists from the cruise ships.
His main life achievement, he says, has been building his own wooden house in London where his son Louis still lives.
Since moving here Paul has become "definitely partial to the fluffiness and eco-awareness" of the West!
