Guernica Tapestry
On the 26th April 1937 at the height of the Spanish Civil war 28 bombers obliterated the ancient Basque town of Guernica machine gunning civilians on the ground as they went.

Pablo Picasso's giant Guernica painting with its images of twisted bodies, horses screaming, dead children held aloft by grieving mothers and houses on fire is one of the most enduring artistic responses to the horror of conflict.

The Polish artist Goshka Macuga has persuaded the United Nations to lend her a full size tapestry copy of Guernica for an installation she's created at the newly refurbished Whitechapel Gallery in East London. (see image below)

Bill Bruford
Jazz drummer Bill Bruford has had an illustrious career playing with everyone from prog-rockers Yes through to his own band Earthworks but at the age of 59 has decided to retire. Yet musician's older than him find it hard to give up the stage and continue to tour into their old age. Bill gives us his thoughts on why it's so hard for musician's to retire.
