Foraging expeditions
Chimpanzees are perfectly adapted for life in the trees. They can gather almost all their food from the canopy, but the chimps that live in the Kyambura Gorge of Uganda will sometimes embark on an unusual journey. Their home is a narrow strip of forest surrounded by vast, open savannah. Living on this border between forest and savannah means that the chimps sometimes venture into this new and exciting habitat in search of food. However, they are not comfortable in the open grasslands, and only forage for a few hours at a time before returning to the forest.
