Raven roost

You'd expect to see ravens in the natural, craggy country of North Wales or the Lake District - but surely not in Liverpool? But you'd be wrong. Bill Oddie looks at raven droppings and nests on the statues of saints adorning the cathedral. The ravens themselves are up on the roof. An adult brings food back for a juvenile which is almost the size of the adult. The raven gets its name from Old Norse - it is an onomatopoeic word for the bird's call 'raa-fen'. Ravens are mainly scavengers and though they are associated with places such as the Tower of London, buildings are not their usual habitat. This is the first year they have nested successfully slap bang in the middle of the city.
