Puppy love
At first light, Jonathon Scott and Richard Goss look for wild dogs by their usual den. To begin with, there's no sign of the dogs but then a subordinate female appears and heads out to greet the returning pack, desperate for food. Jonathan is surprised the dominant female has not come up from the den considering all the noise and excitement of their return. Then suddenly a number of tiny puppies appear, looking about 3 to 4 weeks old. Pug-faced, with tiny ears, and making little squeaking sounds they suckle from their mother who looks very relaxed. Jonathan finds it enormously satisfying to see an animal that is under pressure elsewhere successfully raising a new generation of pups. Wild dogs are one of Africa鈥檚 most endangered predators.
