(And all that) Jazz - Lambert: Piano Concerto No. 1

David Owen Norris joins Charles Hazlewood as he concludes his exploration jazz and dance music's impact on 1920s and 30s European music with Lambert's Elegiac Blues and Piano Concerto.

Charles Hazlewood concludes his exploration of the impact made by jazz and dance music in European music of the 1920s and 30s, with a profile of the English composer Constant Lambert, born in 1905. In today's audience workshop, Charles is joined by pianist David Owen Norris and the 大象传媒 Concert Orchestra, for an exploration of two of Lambert's youthful piano works, the Elegiac Blues and the extraordinarily precocious Piano Concerto (No. 1), which he composed as an eighteen year old student. The programme also includes Lambert's arrangement of his friend William Walton's overture Portsmouth Point.
