Spoon fed egret
Iolo Williams studies how a little egret and spoonbill feed together at the Nevern Estuary. Their bills have different shapes enabling them to compliment each others feeding techniques. The egret stabs with its beak whereas the spoonbill scoops and filters the silt and mud, moving from side to side. It's thought that the egret follows close behind in order to pick up any creatures disturbed in the mud by the spoonbill.
