Migration mecca

Welcome to Gran Piedra. Steve Leonard is looking for migrating ospreys in Cuba. This mountain range is like a highway for ospreys because they can find updrafts from thermals and travel all the way along the mountain range - 200 or 300 kilometres - without wasting too much energy. The record for the number of ospreys seen here is 607 in a day. What's the best way to help migrating ospreys? It's to protect all the lakes and wetlands that they feed at along their route. Sometimes ospreys fly by the mountains carrying a fish to eat later - like a packed lunch. At noon, almost like clockwork the clouds roll in, indicating that the thermals are building. Suddenly ospreys start appearing out of nowhere.
