Tender bulbous and rhizomatous plants such as Canna, Galtonia and Eucomis can be lifted and stored over winter. In milder areas, it may be sufficient to leave them in the ground and cover with a thick mulch but, as it鈥檚 a combination of cold and wet that is likely to cause their demise, lifting them is preferable, particularly where they are in heavy soil.
